Night World : Black Dawn Chapter 8
What are you doing?â⬠he rehashed ferociously. His hold was harming her. ââ¬Å"I'm tossing the water pack down there,â⬠Maggiesaid. Be that as it may, she was thinking, He's so solid. More grounded than anyone I've at any point met. He could break mywrist easily. ââ¬Å"I realize that! Why?â⬠ââ¬Å"Because it's simpler than conveying it down in myteeth,â⬠Maggie said. However, that wasn't the genuine reason,of course. The reality of the situation was that she expected to move enticement. She was so parched thatit was a sort of frenzy, and she was apprehensive ofwhat she would do on the off chance that she clutched this cool, sloshing water sack any longer. He was gazing at her with those alarming eyes,as in the event that he were attempting to pryhis route into her brain. And Maggie had the odd inclination that he'd succeeded, at any rate far enough that he knew the genuine explanation she was doing this. ââ¬Å"You are an idiot,â⬠he said gradually, with cold marvel. ââ¬Å"You ought to tune in to your body; it's telling youwhat it needs. You can't disregard thirst. You can'tdeny it.â⬠ââ¬Å"Yes, you can,â⬠Maggie said straight. Her wrist wasgoing numb. In the event that this went on, she was going to dropthe pack automatically, and in an inappropriate spot. ââ¬Å"You can't,â⬠he stated, by one way or another creation the wordsinto an irate murmur. ââ¬Å"I ought to know.â⬠At that point he got defensive. Maggie ought to have been readied. Jeanne had advised her. Vampires and witches and shapeshifters, she'd said. What's more, Sylvia was a witch, and Bern had been a shapeshifter. This kid was a vampire. The abnormal thing was that, not normal for Bern, he didn'tget uglier when he changed. His face appeared palerand better, such as something etched in ice. His goldeneyes consumed more splendid, surrounded by lashes that lookedeven more black interestingly. His students opened and appeared to hold an obscurity that could gobble aperson up. Be that as it may, it was the mouth that had changed the most.It looked significantly increasingly tenacious, contemptuous, and gloomy and it was drawn up into a scoff to displaythe teeth. Great teeth. Long, translucent white, tightening into sensitive focuses. Formed like a feline's canines, with a sheen on them like gems. Not yellowing tusks like Bern's, however sensitive instruments of death. What astonished Maggie was that despite the fact that helooked totally unique in relation to anything she'd seen previously, totally anomalous, he additionally lookedcompletely common. This was another sort of animal, much the same as a human or a bear, with as muchright to live as both of them. Which didn't mean she wasn't terrified. Be that as it may, shewas alarmed in another way, a route good to go. She was prepared to battle, if battling got vital. She'd just changed that much since entering this valley: dread currently made her not terrified buthyper alert. On the off chance that I need to protect myself I need both hands. And it's better not to let him see I'm frightened. ââ¬Å"Maybe you can't disregard your sort of thirst,â⬠shesaid, and was satisfied that her voice didn't wobble.â⬠But I'm fine. Then again, actually you're harming my wrist. Would you be able to please let go?â⬠For only a moment, the splendid yellow eyesflared much more splendid, and she thought about whether he wasgoing to assault her. Be that as it may, at that point his eyelids lowered, black lashes veiling the splendor. He let go ofher wrist. Maggie's arm sagged, and the calfskin bagdropped from her unexpectedly nerveless fingers. It landed securely at her feet. She scoured her hand. What's more, didn't look into a second later, when he saidwith a sort of calm threatening vibe, ââ¬Å"Aren't you afraidof me?â⬠ââ¬Å"Yes.â⬠It was valid. Furthermore, it wasn't on the grounds that hewas a vampire or in light of the fact that he had a force thatcould send blue demise twenty feet away. It was a result of him, of the manner in which he was. He was frightening enough all by himself. ââ¬Å"But what great is it, being afraid?â⬠Maggie said, still scouring her hand. ââ¬Å"If you're going to attempt tohurt me,IT retaliate. Thus far, you haven't triedto harmed me. You've just aided me.â⬠ââ¬Å"I let you know, I didn't do it for you.And you'll neversurvive on the off chance that you continue being crazy like this.â⬠ââ¬Å"Insane like what?â⬠Now she looked up, to seethat his eyes were consuming dull gold and his fangswere gone. His mouth just looked contemptuous and refined. ââ¬Å"Trusting people,â⬠he stated, as though it ought to havebeen self-evident. ââ¬Å"Taking care of individuals. Don't youknow that solitary the solid ones make it? Feeble individuals are deadweightand in the event that you attempt to support them, they'll drag you down with them.â⬠Maggie had a response for that. ââ¬Å"Cady isn'tweak,â⬠she said straight. ââ¬Å"She's sickShe'll get betterif she finds the opportunity. What's more, in the event that we don't take care ofeach other, what will happen to all of us?â⬠He looked exasperated, and for a couple minutesthey gazed at one another in common dissatisfaction. At that point Maggie bowed and got the pack Again.â⬠i would do well to offer it to her now. I'll bring your can high schooler back.â⬠ââ¬Å"Wait.â⬠His voice was sudden and chilly, threatening. Be that as it may, this time he didn't get her.â⬠What?â⬠ââ¬Å"Follow me.â⬠He provided the request quickly andturned without stopping to check whether she complied. It wasclear that he expectedpeople to obey him, withoutquestions. ââ¬Å"Bring the bag,â⬠he stated, without lookingover his shoulder. Maggie faltered a moment, looking down atCady. Be that as it may, the empty was ensured by the overhanging rocks; Cady would be okay there for a couple of moments. She followed the kid. The thin way that injury around the mountain was unpleasant and crude, hindered by groups of broken, razor-sharpslate. She needed to pick her direction cautiously aroundthem. Before her, the kid moved in the direction of the rocksuddenly and vanished. When Maggie got up to speed, she saw the cavern. The passageway was little, scarcely more than acrack, and even Maggie needed to stoop and go in sideways. In any case, inside it opened into a cozy littleenclosure that resembled moistness and cool stone. Practically no light sifted in from the outsideworld. Maggie flickered, attempting to acclimate to the neardarkness, when there was a sound like a match strike and a smell of sulfur. A little fire was conceived, and Maggie saw the kid lighting some kindof unrefined stone light that had been cut out ofthe cavern divider itself. He looked back at her and his eyes flashed gold. Be that as it may, Maggie was heaving, glancing around her.The light of the little fire tossed a mass of moving, confounding shadows all over, yet it alsopicked out strings of shining quartz in the rock. The little cavern had become a position of charm. Andatthe kid's feet was something that glitteredsilver. In the quiet of the still air, Maggie couldhear the fluid, ringer like sound of water trickling. ââ¬Å"It'sa pool,â⬠the kid said. ââ¬Å"Spring took care of. The watees cold, yet it's acceptable. Water .Something like unadulterated desire defeated Maggie. She stepped forward, overlooking the kid totally, and afterward her legs collapsed.Shecupped a submit the pool, felt the coolness incorporate it to the wrist, and brought it out asif shewere holding fluid precious stone in her palm. She'd tasted nothing asgood as that water. No Coke she'd alcoholic on the most sweltering day of summer could contrast and it. It went through herdry mouth and down her dry throatand then it appeared to spread all through her, sparklingthrough her body, mitigating and resuscitating her. A kind of precious stone clearness entered her mind. She drankand savored a condition of unadulterated happiness. And afterward, when she was in the much more blissfulstate of being not parched any longer, she plunged the calfskin pack under the surface to fill it. ââ¬Å"What's that for?â⬠But there was a sure abdication in the kid's voice. ââ¬Å"Cady. I need to return to her.â⬠Maggie sat backon her heels and took a gander at him. The light dancedand glimmered around him, flickering bronze off hisdark hair, throwing a large portion of his face in shadow. ââ¬Å"Thank you,â⬠she stated, unobtrusively, yet in a voice thatshook somewhat. ââ¬Å"I think you most likely spared mylife again.â⬠ââ¬Å"You were truly thirsty.â⬠ââ¬Å"Yeah.â⬠She held up. ââ¬Å"But when you thought there wasn't enoughwater, you were going to offer it to her.â⬠He couldn'tseem to get over the idea. ââ¬Å"Yeahâ⬠ââ¬Å"Even in the event that it implied you dying?â⬠ââ¬Å"I didn't die,â⬠Maggie brought up. ââ¬Å"And I wasn'tplanning to. Butyeah, I surmise, if there wasn't anyother choice.â⬠She saw him gazing at her in utterbewilderment. ââ¬Å"I assumed liability for her,â⬠shesaid, attempting to clarify. ââ¬Å"It resembles when you take ina feline, or-or it resembles being a sovereign or something. If you state you will be answerable for your subjects, you are. You owe them afterward.â⬠Something glinted in his brilliant eyes, just fora second. It could have been a knife point ofanger or only a flash of wonder. There wasa quiet. ââ¬Å"It's not thatweird, individuals dealing with each other,â⬠Maggie stated, seeing his shadowed face. ââ¬Å"Doesn't anyone do it here?â⬠He gave a short giggle. ââ¬Å"Hardly,â⬠he said dryly.â⬠The nobles realize how to deal with themselves. And the slaves need to battle each other to survive.â⬠He included unexpectedly, ââ¬Å"All of which you ought to know. But obviously you're not from here. You're fromOutside.â⬠ââ¬Å"I didn't have the foggiest idea whether you thought about Outside,â⬠Mag gie said. ââ¬Å"There should be any contact. Therewasn't for around 500 years. Be that as it may, whenmy-when the old ruler kicked the bucket, they opened the pass, again and began getting slaves from the outside world. New blood.â⬠He said it basically andmatter-of-factly. Mountain men, Maggie thought. For a considerable length of time there had been gossipy tidbits about the Cascades, about menwho lived in shrouded places among the icy masses andpreyed on climbers. Men or beasts. There were consistently explorers who professed to have seen Bigfoot. What's more, perhaps they had-or possibly they'd seen ashapeshifter like Bern. ââ¬Å"And you feel that is okay,â⬠she said out loud.â⬠Grabbing individuals from th

What fits by Eisen essays
What fits by Eisen papers What Fits is an incredibly close to home and real to life hypertext novella composed by Adrienne Eisen. The novella is a cozy record of a time of tough situations in a youthful womans life. As the principle characters battles with life, professions, and connections are spread out the crowd improves feel for a portion of the characters not exactly customary perspectives and living. As Eisen builds up her character a solid sexual topic is evident and proceeds all through the novella. The Characters not exactly customary perspectives and living can be applied to the manner in which she sees and manages sexuality. In many cases creators will utilize sexuality to communicate something about a character that probably won't be so self-evident. For what reason did Adrienne Eisen decide to build up her character with this untraditional way to deal with sexuality and what does she need it to state about her character. From the earliest starting point the primary characters sexuality is common. About each screen suggests sex or sexuality somehow or another, and ordinarily in the most wrong way. Understanding Step 4 of the 12 Steps
Understanding Step 4 of the 12 Steps Addiction Coping and Recovery Methods and Support Print Understanding Step 4 of the 12 Steps By Buddy T facebook twitter Buddy T is an anonymous writer and founding member of the Online Al-Anon Outreach Committee with decades of experience writing about alcoholism. Learn about our editorial policy Buddy T Updated on November 20, 2019 Getty Images More in Addiction Coping and Recovery Methods and Support Overcoming Addiction Personal Stories Alcohol Use Addictive Behaviors Drug Use Nicotine Use There is a saying in the 12-step programs that recovery is a process, not an event. The same can be said for Step 4: Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. Whether we come through the doors of Alcoholics Anonymous or Al-Anon Family Groups chances are we bring a lifetime of stinking thinking with us. Frankly, it takes a while for the fog to begin to lift, so that we begin to see ourselves and the world around us more clearly. If we have sincerely completed the first three steps and have truly made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him, then it is time to put that principle into action. We must find the courage to take a fearless look at ourselves and become willing to clean up the garbage we find. In order to proceed, we must identify the problems and get a clear picture of how our behavior affected ourselves and others around us. That picture is not always in focus for newcomers early in recovery, but as we continue to hang around the rooms, listening and learning from others, and keeping an open mind, we find more layers of the onion being peeled away. No Graduating Services We are not perfect, and never will be in this life. That is the reason there are no graduation services held at 12-step meetings! But if we continue to participate, carrying the message to others, and listening to what they have to share, we can continue to grow and make spiritual progress. Thats why they say, Keep Coming Back! Tools to Help With Self Inventory There are tools available to help in the 4th step process. There is a 4th Step Guide available online for all 12-step members. The online 4th Step Guide includes an exhaustive set of directions explaining how the guide works and a reminder that an inventory is simply a list: Please keep in mind that the Fourth Step is not dealing with changing anything. An inventory doesnt change things, it simply lists things. Your inventory is only a story of your feelings and acts from the beginning until now. The online guide then provides questions and suggestions to help with an inventory from childhood, adolescence, and adulthood, with a final conclusion section for here and now. The online 4th Step Guide is of course just a suggested guide that is intended to be helpful to those doing an inventory. It is not intended to be shared with anyone, it is for your eyes only, according to the directions. In addition to the online guide, Al-Anon Family Groups has its Blueprint for Progress: Al-Anons Fourth Step Inventory workbook which can be ordered online. But the greatest help available in doing Step 4 is available from a power greater than ourselves, as visitors to the bulletin board have demonstrated in their shares on this step, as our study of the 12 Traditions and 12 Steps continues: Step 4: Daily Inventory As many of you know from my sharing at the Thursday night 12 step meetings, it took me a long time to get to even work on the 12 steps. I was told by my Sponsor that all I had to do was work the first step to its fullest, keep attending meetings, do what I was told, and the rest will come in time. By doing this I was in some manner working on taking the 12 steps, and it was well over a year before I ever missed a meeting. There finally came a time when I realized that I better get going on the 12 steps, by me attending so many meetings I knew who I wanted to help me with the steps. This very good friend of mine chaired a lot of 12 step meetings, (classes) which I started to attend. I went along just fine until I came upon the 4th step and I hit a wall. I felt real bad about so many things that I had done in my life, that it seemed impossible to get all of this inventory down right. Finally, one day I was sharing this with my sponsor and he smiled and asked me where I was going. He told me to do the best that I can at this time and I will have plenty of time to do the rest. He told me not to be beating up on myself, (keep it simple) and this is just what I did. It made it a lot easier and through time I was able to see better of how to take my moral inventory. Once we take these steps it doesnt mean that we are done, nor does it mean that we have to always do the 12 steps in order. I have to take a moral inventory of myself everyday of my life. I have to look back and make sure that I like what Skip has done. Loveya,Skip Step 4: Being Honest Here I am still on step 4. Been here for weeks and weeks it will take to complete. The only thing I can say that has really helped was obtaining the questions to the step on the internet. There must be 100 questions there and I am still in the childhood part. It is a very hard thing for me to do but I must do this. Being in my 40s I asked the questions, why dear God? Why go back to the past, the painful past. The past is gone, today is here tomorrow is, my hope. I see now why I must do this and continue to do so. My mother was an alcoholic and died at 49, my brother was an alcoholic and died at 48. Forty-seven is coming for me and I am not going. Looking in the past has made me understand now more than ever why I did marry an alcoholic. This step is hard -- this step can be painful -- but I only ask that you do it. One hour a day is not that much time and write out the answers and be honest with yourself and remember God is with you if that pain goes right into your heart. And also remember we are all here for each other. SS Step 4: A Journey Step 4 started out for me as a very scary thing. Moral inventory? I struggled with questions of morality for most of my life. I came from a religious background that was strict, conservative, and self-righteous. And the self-appointed leader in the family was a woman disgruntled with men, so nothing I said or did, even at age 12, was even close to her moral boundaries. So when I was told that eventually I would take a searching and fearless moral inventory, I was quite reluctant. Now to get through Step 4. My sponsor had asked me to do several things as a precursor to Step 4. First, I had to list ten physical attributes about myself that I liked. Then I had to list ten personality traits about myself that I liked. Another list was at least ten people that loved me. I had to read these lists every morning and every night for two weeks. My sponsor continued: Take a sheet of legal paper. Draw a line down the center, and then put a mark in the middle of the line. This was my life line, the center was the middle of my life (at the time I was 32, hence the mark indicated age 16). He told me to start making marks on the line denoting major events in my life. Once I had done all this, I was ready for Step 4. My sponsor flipped me Hazelden guides, but I couldnt do it that way. Then I attended a meeting one Friday night, largely attended by people rumored to be the graduates of Chicago AA boot camp (the dreaded residences). A woman stormed in, angry at some event that had just occurred, and made her comment, which included this: If you are working the 4th step, the best way to do it is the way the Big Book explains it. Now why this stuck with me I dont know, but I decided to try it. And I found that yes indeed, this was the best way for me. So I embarked on my 4th step journey. I wrote and I wrote and I wrote. I made lots of progress, but one day I just couldnt write any more. I knew I wasnt finished, but for some reason I had reached a brick wall and couldnt go on. I talked about it in meetings. I talked to my sponsor, but he couldnt help me. Then a friend in the program invited me to an ACOA meeting. I went to that meeting, and after only 10 minutes the brick wall had fallen down. I resumed writing my 4th step and completed it in just another week. ACOA had opened my eyes about many things that I had suppressed. With my 4th step completed, I was ready (or so I thought) for Step 5. Sox

Report on religious traditions Religion is Tenrikyo Free Essay Example, 2000 words
According to Dempsey ( 2013) although there are now followers in many countries, this new religion began in Japan in the mid-19th century, and is based upon revelations to a woman called Nakayama Miki, known to her followers as Oyasama. The exact date of the churchââ¬â¢s founding is 10/26/1838, the date on which Mikiââ¬â¢s husband Zenbei felt he was complying with the wishes of God by accepting his wife as a shrine, that is he was accepting that God was actually dwelling inside his wife. They had married when Miki was only 13, and she has been described as a perfect and virtuous housewife. The events described took place more than 30 years after their marriage ( Let us reason ministries, 2009). In her 40ââ¬â¢s a Shino priest was called to the home to carry out some form of "mystical ritual" in order to cure both Miki and her husband. At this time she went into a trance and had her first revelation. She spoke as if the voice of God was actually speaking through her. I tis built around Jiba, the place where, according to ancient tradition humankind was first created by God the Parent and, so, symbolically, and according to the faith of believers, is therefore the ancestral home of all people. According to the doctrine of Tenriko, :- In the beginning, the world was a muddy ocean. Tsukihi, God the Parent, finding this chaos unbearably tasteless, thought of creating human beings in order to see the Joyous Life and thus share in that joy. ( Doctrine of Tenriko, Chapter 3, The Truth of Origin). Many of the elements of belief held by followers can be found under the heading Tenrikyo Fundamentals ( translated by Koji Sato, undated). It includes such important topics as there being no distinction between males and females as both are created by God; the need to have a humble mind; the necessity of passing on the message from one generation to the next; making efforts which fit in actions with what you say, that is religion isnââ¬â¢t just about words or even beliefs, but is about actions, about living out oneââ¬â¢s faith. . Tsukihi is one of several names followers give to their god, Tenri-O-no-Mikoto being another name meaning the ââ¬Å"Esteemed Sovereign of the Heavenly Intelligenceâ⬠(Morrigan 2013). According to ââ¬ËLet us reason ministries ( 2009) God first showed himself as Kami (the cretaor) and later as Tsuki-hi. This means the moon/sun God and is said to indicate the way God works all the time, both night and day, rather than being a pagan reference to nature worship.

Managerial Communications Essay - 1471 Words
Raymond Castillo Managerial Communications (Man-373-OL009) Written Assignment 1 Hynes introduces a calculated approach to managerial communication by dissecting it into three separate, yet mutually dependent functions. Hynes believes that with these approaches, management and employees alike can learn to adapt to one another to create an effective work force. The first layer is based on the idea that an employer and his employees can create a positive work atmosphere with the communication climate they set with one another. If a manager and his employees have an open and trusting relationship, it makes communications much easier for the both of them, regardless of their status. By allowing employees to contribute their thoughts andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦For example, Manager A and his Employee B, may have a friendly and casual relationshipââ¬âone in which they may feel so comfortable that they talk about their personal and/or family business with one another. This is good in the sense that Employee B learns to trust Manager A and feels he can chat comfortably about his feelings toward his job. Now, if Employee A begins to feel so comfortable that Manager A is finding consistent errors within Employee Bââ¬â¢s work, it is only right for Manager A to step in and confront him about the matter. Depending upon the choice of words used by Manager A and how Employee B feels about the situation, it can change the communication climate. One bad meeting can leave Employee B feeling angry with Manager A. He may no longer wish to have such a friendly demeanor towards him in the future. This can cause a strain on their communication with each other in the future. Another way to open a communication climate is through organizational culture. In an age of such advanced technology, many businesses no longer feel the need to speak to a person directly, either face-to-face or over the phone. The use of email has become a strong tool in business as it allows users to speak to each other without having to schedule a set time for both parties to meet only to say a few words. From the previous example, Manager A may be in a business that is highly dependent on email to speak to his employees in order to give clear, directShow MoreRelatedManagerial Communication2131 Words à |à 9 PagesWhat Is Managerial Communication? 2 1.1 Organizational Communication 3 1.1.1 Methods To Effective Organizational Communication 4 1.1.2 Barriers of Organizational Communication And How To Overcome Them? 5 1.1.3 Benefits of Effective Organizational Communication 7 1.2 Interpersonal Communication 7 1.2.1 Methods of effective Interpersonal communication 7 1.2.2 Key Functions of Interpersonal Communication 8 2. Olaudah Equiano Essays (1611 words) - Racism, African Slave Trade
Olaudah Equiano Feb.02, 2001 Olaudah Equiano In 1745, Olaudah Equiano was born in a small village in Isseke,Nigeria. His father was one of the chiefs in the village. At age eleven Equiano and his sister were kidnapped by two men and a woman never to see his home or parents again. After being kidnapped he was hiked across part of Africa untill he arrived at the coast where he was loaded onto a slave ship. While crossing the Atlantic to Barbados onboard the slave ship he and his countrymen were subject to horrors you could hardly imagine. Equiano tells about the horrors and torture slaves face not only on the slave ship but also on plantations and many other aspects of a slave's life. Equiano experienced almost all parts of a slave's existence. He was a slave throughout Africa, England, and the New World. Equiano is bought and sold several times. Religion also played a huge role in Equiano's life and I think that it helped him get through some really hard times. He is bought by a British Naval officer and serves in the British Na vy during the Seven Years' War. He is then sold to Robert King where he begins trading goods between islands and eventually makes enough money to buy his freedom. Equiano tells of the joy he feels when he becomes a free man. The rest of his life is devoted to helping slaves and to the cause of abolishing slavery. In 1756 Olaudah Equino was kidnapped and taken to a slave ship which is when his nightmare and battle with slavery began. Equiano and his countrymen were chained together and treated extremely badly. I've never heard of animals being kept in a worse place than the slaves aboard the ship. Below decks on the ship is where the real horrors took place. There were hundreds of slaves packed into a very small place. There was no room for a person to turn over and barely enough room to sit up. There was no light below decks, just a suffocating darkness. With the many people in such a small place and the humidity, the temperature below decks was unbearable. There was no fresh air, nothing but the nasty stench of the latrines and peoples body odor. The air became unfit to breathe and almost suffocated them. There were children that would fall into the latrines and almost drowned. Many slaves would get sick and die in this terrible place and never make it to Barbados. Shrieks of women and the gr oans of the dying made the whole scene a nightmare. This caused some slaves to jump off the ship and drown themselves. The first time he was flogged was on the ship when he refused to eat. Two white men tied his feet. One white man held his hands while the other flogged or whipped him. Prisoners were severely cut and flogged for hours for trying to jump off the ship. He had never seen such savage brutal cruelty among people. When the ship reached Barbados the slaves were put into a pin like animals. At the sound of a drum, buyers rushed out to pick out the slaves they wanted to buy. Then no matter if they were friends, husbands, wives, brothers, or sisters they were separated and never to see each other again. Equiano was sold and worked on a plantation in Virginia County, weeding grass and moving stones. On this plantation he saw the black slave cook with some kind of iron muzzle that locked her mouth shut so she could hardly speak. I guess this contraption was put on her head so s he couldn't eat any of her master's food. Equiano served the British navy from 1958-1962 during the Seven Years War. In the hopes of being freed, Equiano gave all his wages and prize money to Micheal Pascal, but he was not freed, he was illegally sold to another man. Equiano was robbed of the money he saved by two sailors when they reached Monterserrat. Although Equiano was treated bad he always followed two religious rules: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you and Honesty is the best policy. He suffers a lot

Abortion - ProLife Decision essays
Abortion - ProLife Decision essays Imagine youre sixteen years old, and youre sitting in the doctors office. A nurse approaches you, takes your boyfriend, your mother, and you into a room, are you nervous? You should be. The nurse breaks the news to you that you are pregnant. You start to cry and think of alternatives to not having this child, even though it is your responsibility. You call the doctor and schedule to have an abortion, not even knowing what it is. You now think the baby will not be your problem anymore, so why think twice, its what you want, isnt it? Since this person doesnt know the affects or even what abortion is, is there any way to tell her the truth and show her that abortion is not the answer in getting rid of your child. There are other alternatives that she could think of, and there are other ways of this baby being saved. First and foremost, what is abortion? Abortion is a way to end pregnancy by force, which is called an induced abortion, which can be done surgically or medically by taking a pills or injection to kill the baby inside of you. The two ways are very important in the abortion process, considering it is the way you are killing your baby. Surgical abortion has ways of removing the baby surgically. Three most common methods are manual vacuum aspiration, dilation and suction curettage, and dilation and evacuation. The method used depends on how long you have been pregnant - the number of days since the first day of your last period. To have an abortion surgically is not always one hundred percent effective and fails to end pregnancy only one out of every five hundred times preformed. (NOW, and Abortion Rights) The second option you are given in an abortion is to have the baby killed medically. Medical abortion is a way to end pregnancy without surgery. Recent studies show that medical abor tion works up to sixty-three days after the last period begins. (NOW, and Abortion Rights) ...

Green Living - 5 Ways to Help Save the Planet
Green Living - 5 Ways to Help Save the Planet You may not be able to reduce global warming, end pollution and save endangered species single-handedly, but by choosing to live an earth-friendly lifestyle you can do a lot every day to help achieve those goals. And by making wise choices about how you live, and the amount of energy and natural resources you consume, you send a clear message to businesses, politicians and government agencies that value you as a customer, constituent and citizen. Here are five simple things you can do- in 30 minutes or less- to help protect the environment and save Planet Earth. Drive Less, Drive Smart Every time you leave your car at home you reduce air pollution, lower greenhouse gas emissions, improve your health and save money. Walk or ride a bicycle for short trips, or take public transportation for longer ones. In 30 minutes, most people can easily walk a mile or more, and you can cover even more ground on a bicycle, bus, subway or commuter train. Research has shown that people who use public transportation are healthier than those who do not. Families that use public transportation can save enough money annually to cover their food costs for the year. When you do drive, take the few minutes needed to make sure your engine is well maintained and your tires properly inflated. Benefits of Public TransportationKeeping Your Tires Properly Inflated Could Help Save the Planet- and Your Life Eat Your Vegetables Eating less meat and more fruits, grains and vegetables can help the environment more than you may realize. Eating meat, eggs and dairy products contributes heavily to global warming, because raising animals for food produces many more greenhouse gas emissions than growing plants. A 2006 report by the University of Chicago found that adopting a vegan diet does more to reduce global warming than switching to a hybrid car. Raising animals for food also uses enormous amounts of land, water, grain and fuel. Every year in the United States alone, 80 percent of all agricultural land, half of all water resources, 70 percent of all grain, and one-third of all fossil fuels are used to raise animals for food. Making a salad doesnââ¬â¢t take any more time than cooking a hamburger and itââ¬â¢s better for you- and for the environment. What Are the Negative Health Effects of Red Meat? Switch to Reusable Shopping Bags Producing plastic bags uses a lot of natural resources, and most end up as litter that fouls landscapes, clogs waterways, and kills thousands of marine mammals that mistake the ubiquitous bags for food. Worldwide, up to a trillion plastic bags are used and discarded every year- more than a million per minute. The count for paper bags is lower, but the cost in natural resources is still unacceptably high- especially when there is a better alternative. Reusable shopping bags, made of materials that donââ¬â¢t harm the environment during production and donââ¬â¢t need to be discarded after each use, reduce pollution and save resources that could be put to better uses than making plastic and paper bags. Reusable bags are convenient and come in a variety of sizes and styles. Some reusable bags can even be rolled or folded small enough to fit into a purse or pocket. Reusable Bags: Paper, Plastic or Something Better? Why Stop Using Plastic Bags? Change Your Light Bulbs Compact fluorescent light bulbs and light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are more energy efficient and less expensive to use than the traditional incandescent bulbs invented by Thomas Edison. For example, compact fluorescent light bulbs use at least two-thirds less energy than standard incandescent bulbs to provide the same amount of light, and they last up to 10 times longer. Compact fluorescent light bulbs also generate 70 percent less heat, so they are safer to operate and can reduce energy costs associated with cooling homes and offices. According to the Union of Concerned Scientists, if every U.S. household replaced just one regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb, it would prevent 90 billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions from power plants, the equivalent of taking 7.5 million cars off the road. On top of that, for every incandescent bulb you replace with an approved compact fluorescent light bulb, you will save consumers $30 in energy costs over the life of the bulb. Change a Light Bulb and Change the WorldA Bright Idea Goes Global: Nations Worldwide Phasing Out Incandescent LightingChina Makes Commitment to Energy-Efficient LightingLet There Be Light: Solar-Powered LED Lamps Brighten Lives of Poor People Pay Your Bills Online Many banks, utilities and other businesses now offer their customers the option of paying bills online, eliminating the need to write and mail paper checks or to keep paper records. By paying your bills online you can save time and money, lower the administrative costs of companies with which you do business, and reduce global warming by helping to prevent deforestation. Signing up for online bill paying is easy and doesnââ¬â¢t take much time. You can either choose to have certain bills paid automatically each month or elect to review and pay each bill yourself. Either way, you will receive outstanding returns on your small investment of time.

Consumer behaviour Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Consumer behaviour - Essay Example The recent and contemporary marketing concept brings into limelight the piece of information that with the fulfillment of the needs and wants of the target market or the customers, the organization is more likely to accomplish and achieve their goals and objectives. Furthermore, with the contentment of the customers in a more effective and persuasive manner than that of the competitors, the enterprise would get an edge over their competitors (Hoyer & Macinnis, pp. 16-20, 2009). One of the important elements of marketing that facilitates the organization in acquainting and understanding the buying patterns of the products and services of the customers. Many of the important questions that includes when, why, how and where people have a tendency to buy a particular product or service come under the analysis and examination in consumer behavior. Furthermore, the study of consumer behavior will assist the businesses and organizations not only to attract new customers, but will also support in retaining the old and current customers that will eventually lead the organization to survive and sustain in the distant future. (Silk &à Harvard Business School, pp. 47-53, 2006). In addition, the study of consumer behavior also helps and endeavors to comprehend and identify the factors on which the decisions of the customers depend and rely on made either on individual basis or in groups. Therefore, it is considerably an imperative and vital feature of marketing manage ment segment. According to the definition, consumer behavior is ââ¬Å"The totality of consumersââ¬â¢ decision with respect to the acquisition, consumption, and disposition of goods, services, activities, experiences, people, and ideas by (human)decision-making units (over time)â⬠(Hoyer &à Macinnis, pp.3, 2009) Data resulting from the demography such as age, gender, income, education, behavioral temperament are they key distinctive and distinguishing characteristics used in the research of consumer behavior. Moreover, how the families, friends, reference groups, culture, and community play a dominant and persuasive role are also the principal and prime attributes in the studies and evaluations of consumer behavior. As the study of the buying pattern of the customers is a multifaceted and complex process where numerous aspects influence and affects the pattern, therefore, huge amount of money and a lot of time comes under spending and consumption by the enterprises and the ir marketing departments (East &à Wright & Vanhuele, pp. 3-10, 2008). Thus, this practice comes under performance in order to identify and distinguish the causes of the decisions on which the consumers make their purchasing of a particular product or service. 205 Finals Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words
205 Finals - Coursework Example Texas is a good example of a state in which the control of guns has lead to drastic reduction in the number of crimes. Since the early 1990s, the crime rate has dropped by around 50 percent (LaRosa, 2002). Some bias exist in this article, there are incidences where the author agrees that guns control assist in the prevention of violent crimes and there other where the author totally disagrees. Some of the examples given are biased like the one on Washington, D.C. The author states that the murder rate has increased by 134% while the overall crime rate has reduced by around 2 percent. The politicians blame the Virginiaââ¬â¢s less strict gun control laws for the murders witnessed in D.C. The author further states that Virginia Beach, the largest city in Virginia has the lowest rates of murder (LaRosa, 2002). The same passage discussed above is vague and does not provide full details. Other areas where the statements are vague are the example given on Texas State. Crime rate is said to have reduce significantly since the adoption of the concealed carry laws. The information provided only covers the overall decline and does not give much detail on how the concealed carry laws worked for the state. The source of the information is credible. The author provides an idea of how the gun control prevents the occurrence of violent crimes. It provides the history, arguments for and against gun control and examples concerning the topic. Rhetorical devices used are examples; examples are given throughout the article. There are fallacies in the article, ââ¬Å"people who obey gun-control laws are less able to defend themselves against those who donââ¬â¢t obey those same lawsâ⬠(LaRosa, 2002, par 17). The statement is a lie because those who obey the gun control laws can still be able to defend themselves. This is because they can obtain permits that legally allow them to carry guns.

The Moor in Othello Essay -- Othello essays
The Moor in Othelloà à à à à Who can resist empathizing with the unfortunate protagonist in William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Othello? He is so noble, and yet so victimized by the cunning Iago. à Is it his ââ¬Å"gullibilityâ⬠which leads to his downfall? Morton W. Bloomfield and Robert C. Elliott à in Great Plays: Sophocles to Brecht posit the ââ¬Å"lack of insightâ⬠of the hero as the cause of his tragic fall: à Othelloââ¬â¢s lack of insight, cunningly played upon by Iago, leads to his downfall. And as the full enormity of his deed dawns upon him in the great scene of tragic self-revelation at the end, the audience may perhaps experience catharsis, that purgation of the soul brought about by an almost unbearable pity for him and his victims, and by terror at what human nature is capable of and what pitfalls await us in life. Throughout the play, the audience posses the information which Iago's victim does not have; the viewers know all along what Othello does not know. From that omniscient view, they look upon this tortured human being with a strong sense of the irony and tragedy of his position. à (39) à From the text of the play a number of clues can be gleaned which round out the description of the general. In William Shakespeare: The Tragedies, Paul A. Jorgensen describes the general in Othello: à Though scarcely the ââ¬Å"barbarianâ⬠(1.3.353) he is called, the Moor is emphatically black, probably rough, even fearsome, in appearance, and a foreign mercenary from Mauritania in refined Venice. Though of royal blood, since the age of seven he had a restrictive, painful life, being sold into slavery and spending most of his life in ââ¬Å"the tented fieldâ⬠(1.3.85). His ââ¬Å"occupationâ⬠(3.3.357), to a degree found in no other Shakes... ...ice his life next to the corpse of Desdemona; for he ââ¬Å"Like the base Judean, threw a pearl away / Richer than all his tribe [. . .] .â⬠He dies a noble death, just as he has lived a noble life. Michael Cassioââ¬â¢s evaluation of his end is our evaluation: ââ¬Å"This did I fear, but thought he had no weapon; / For he was great of heart.â⬠à à WORKS CITED à Bloomfield, Morton W. and Robert C. Reaction Paper on Acculturation and Alcohol Treatment in Ethnic Minority Populations: Assessment Issues and Implications
In the article Acculturation and Alcohol Treatment in Ethnic Minority Populations: Assessment Issues and Implications, the authors research the impact of acculturation on the drinking behavior of minorities, specifically older Latino veterans versus older White veterans. In the article, acculturation is defined as ââ¬Å" the exchange of cultural features from the continuous firsthand contact of one group to another. â⬠The authors conducted a study that looked at the relationship between the level of acculturation and the level of alcohol use among older White and Latino male veterans. The subjects were 55yrs of age or older there were 18 White male veterans and 24 Latino male veterans. The authors hypothesized that the higher the levels of acculturation among Latino veterans would correlate to higher levels of drinking behavior. The hypothesis was backed up with the results; drinking behavior was correlated with acculturation levels. In Latino veterans higher past drinking behavior was associated with lower social affiliation with their own group. The concept of acculturation is something that is new to me. I can imagine though that it could have a profound impact on the lives of minority individuals. In reading the article, it was linked to higher levels of substance abuse in minorities as well as stress and psychological disorders; which in many minorities go undetected and/or untreated. This is a concept that I feel should be studied more. This article deals with older subjects, but I think the impact of acculturation needs to be studied in younger minorities, males and females. I hope to have the opportunity to look into the concept, theories, and potential impacts of acculturation more thoroughly as I continue my tenure here at USC. This article stresses, just as much of the material I have read in this class and my other classes, that as mental health workers and social workers we must mind our clients cultures and the impact of their culture on their behavior. With the idea of acculturation now added, as a social worker I need be mindful of the potential set backs minority clients may be experiencing by trying to fit in to the mainstream culture.

Death of a Salesman The American Dream Theme
Some may argue that the appeal of Arthur Millers play Death of a Salesman is the struggle each character encounters as they try to pursue and define their American Dream. The rags to riches ideaââ¬âwhere hard work and persistence, coupled with high hopes and inner and outer struggles that often accompany it, should lead to successââ¬âseems timelessly relatable and represents one of the central themes of the story. Miller fabricated the character of a salesman without an identified product, and the audience connects with him that much more. Creating a worker broken by a vague, unfeeling industry stems from the playwrightââ¬â¢s socialist leanings, and it has often been said that Death of a Salesman is a harsh criticism of the American Dream. However, according to Miller, the play is not necessarily a critique of the American Dream as our forefathers thought of it. Rather, what it condemns is the confusion that enters when people take the material success for the end-all-be-all and elevate it above spirituality, connection with nature, and, most importantly, relationships with others. Willy Lomanââ¬â¢s American Dream To the protagonist of Death of a Salesman, the American Dream is the ability to become prosperous by mere charisma. Willy believes that charming personality, and not necessarily hard work and innovation, is the key to success. Time and again, he wants to make sure his boys are well-liked and popular. For example, when his son Biff confesses to making fun of his math teacherââ¬â¢s lisp, Willy is more concerned with how Biffââ¬â¢s classmates react than with the morality of Biffs action: BIFF: I Crossed my eyes and talked with a lithp.ââ¬â¹Ã¢â¬â¹ WILLY [laughing]: You did? The kids like it? BIFF: They nearly died laughing! Of course, Willyââ¬â¢s version of the American Dream never pans out: Despite his sonââ¬â¢s popularity in high school, Biff grows up to be a drifter and a ranch-hand.Willyââ¬â¢s own career falters as his sales ability flat-lines.When he tries to use ââ¬Å"personalityâ⬠to ask his boss for a raise, he gets fired instead. Willy is very much concerned with being somebody and paying off his mortgage, which in themselves arent necessarily bad goals. His tragic flaw is that he fails to recognize the love and devotion that surround him and elevates the goals prescribed by society above all else. Benââ¬â¢s American Dream One person Willy really admires and wishes he was more like is his older brother Ben. In a way, Ben embodies the original American Dreamââ¬âthe ability to start with nothing and somehow make a fortune: BEN [giving great weight to each word, and with a certain vicious audacity]: William, when I walked into the jungle, I was seventeen. When I walked out I was twenty-one. And, by God, I was rich! Willy is envious of his brotherââ¬â¢s success and machismo. But Willyââ¬â¢s wife Linda, one of the characters who can actually distinguish from true and superficial values, is frightenedà and concerned when Ben stops by for a brief visit. To her, he represents wildness and danger. This is displayed when Ben horses around with his nephew Biff. Just as Biff starts to win their sparring match, Ben trips the boy and stands over him with the ââ¬Å"point of his umbrella poised at Biffââ¬â¢s eye.â⬠Benââ¬â¢s character signifies that a few people can achieve the ââ¬Å"rags to richesâ⬠version of the American Dream. Yet, Millerââ¬â¢s play also suggests that one must be ruthless (or at least a bit wild) in order to achieve it. Happys American Dream When it comes to Willys sons, they each appear to have inherited a different side of Willy. Happy, despite being a more static and one-sided character, is following in Willys footsteps of self-delusion and pretenses. He is a shallow character who is content with going from job to job, as long as he has some income and can devote himself to his female interests. Charleys and Bernards American Dream Willys neighbor Charley and his son Bernard stand in opposition to Lomans familys ideals. The protagonist frequently puts both of them down, promising his sons that they will do better in life than their neighbors because they look better and are more liked. Willy: Thatââ¬â¢s just what I mean, Bernard can get the best marks in school, yââ¬â¢understand, but when he gets out in the business world, yââ¬â¢understand, you are going to be five times ahead of him. Thatââ¬â¢s why I thank Almighty God youââ¬â¢re both built like Adonises. Because the man who makes an appearance in the business world, the man who creates personal interest, is the man who gets ahead. Be liked and you will never want. You take me, for instance. I never have to wait in line to see a buyer. Yet, it is Charley who has his own business and not Willy. And it is Bernards seriousness about school that ensured his future success, which is in stark contrast with the paths of the Loman brothers. Instead, Charley and Bernard are both honest, caring, and hard-working without the unnecessary bravado. They demonstrate that with the right attitude, the American Dream is indeed achievable. Biffââ¬â¢s American Dream Biff is one of the most complex characters in this play. Although he has felt confused and angry since discovering his fatherââ¬â¢s infidelity, Biff Loman does have theà potential to pursue the ââ¬Å"rightâ⬠dreamââ¬âif only he could resolve his inner conflict. Biff is pulled by two different dreams. One is that of his fatherââ¬â¢s world of business, sales, and capitalism. Biff is captured by his love and admiration for his father and struggles to decide what is the right way to live. On the other hand, he also inherited his fathers sense of poetry and love for the natural life that Willy didnt allow to fully develop. And so Biff dreams of nature, the great outdoors, and working with his hands. Biff explains this tension to his brother when he talks about both the appeal and the angst of working on a ranch: BIFF: Thereââ¬â¢s nothing more inspiring orââ¬âbeautiful than the sight of a mare and a new colt. And itââ¬â¢s cool there now, see? Texas is cool now, and itââ¬â¢s spring. And whenever spring comes to where I am, I suddenly get the feeling, my God, Iââ¬â¢m not getting anywhere! What the hell am I doing, playing around with horses, twenty-eight dollars a week! Iââ¬â¢m thirty-four years old. I oughta be makinââ¬â¢ my future. Thatââ¬â¢s when I come running home. By the end of the play, Biff realizes that his father had the ââ¬Å"wrongâ⬠dream. He knows that Willy was great with his hands (he built their garage and put up a new ceiling), and Biff believes that Willy should have been a carpenter or should have lived in another, more rustic part of the country. But instead, Willy pursued an empty life. He sold nameless, unidentified products, and watched his American Dream fall apart. During the funeral of his father, Biff decides that he will not allow the same thing to happen to himself. He turns away from Willyââ¬â¢s dream and, presumably, returns to the countryside, where good, old-fashioned manual labor will ultimately make his restless soul content. Sources Matthew C.
